Great interview! I graduated 10 years earlier than Scott and we didn’t even have an invoice waved in our faces. There was no business aspect to my course but what a great course despite this. What Scott has to say about self-promotion makes so much sense. Also, I found it interesting how Scott doesn’t mind explaining his initial ideas to art directors. When I was doing a lot of editorial I would balk at doing this. I felt if the sketch didn’t speak for itself it wasn’t working. Being critiqued by the AD was always a bit of blow in the early years, but you learn from it and it toughens you up.

Thanks Greg. I accidentally kept pelting Scott with a series of tough questions, and he stepped up and brought a lot to the table. What a great conversation. Thanks for listening.

This guys really lives and breathes art! I’ve read a few interviews with him and am amazed by all he went through to be where he is today. I’m inspired to explore and discover and to make my work more personal.

Love this! I’ve been a fan of Scott’s work for a while now and it’s nice to hear his views on “not giving a shit” about experimenting, exploring, and changing styles! As illustrators it can be so easy for us to just sit in our comfort zone and stay there. Nice to hear Scott’s thoughts on why that’s a crap idea – hooray for growth and constant evolution
