Great interview. John Cuneo has been one of my favorite illustrators, along with Alan Cober and Jack Unruh. Perhaps you can get Jack for an interview in the near future. Thanks for alway doing an outstanding job with your podcasts.

Thanks David. I appreciate the feedback. John is one of my favorites as well. Such a great balance of concept and execution. And it turns out he’s a great guy as well.

Yay, back! I haven’t even started listening yet, but I’d like to pre-thank you anyway! Right, I’m going in!……

Thanks Wayne. Just to be clear, the EFII Podcast isn’t going anywhere, so fear not.

It’s fascinating to hear Cuneo talk about his “personal investment” in the marks he makes on paper. I can’t think of another illustrator today who drapes his entrails across the drawing board the way Cuneo does, and it certainly pays off in the quality of his work.

Thanks for a terrific interview. I know that many fans, like me, have wondered about the artist behind those marvelous drawings.

I don’t think I can top David’s description of draping entrails across the drawing board, but I definitely echo that sentiment. Cuneo’s work is as honest as it is skilled. And he is as modest as he is (according to his sketchbooks) perverted.

Really great interview. Nice to hear about the various neuroses my favorite artists have.

Fantastic interview!!! I would agree with what John said about” style”, even though I don’t think I’ve found my own style just yet. This podcast, as well as this episode, gives me hope that I can get off this island…

This was another Great interview Thomas. So great to be able hear someone with that great of a skill-set being so frank and honest about his doubts and worries as an illustrator( I have much of the same problem of looking at these guys work and thinking why am I even trying to do this?). I never get tired of hearing these talented individuals reminding us of our fragility and inspiring us to persevere.

Many Thanks to you, and John.

Thanks Peter. I too love to hear from fellow artists who struggle with many of the same doubts and fears as all of us. Very encouraging and inspirational. Thanks for listening!

Why have I only discovered this beautiful podcast today?

I absolutely loved this interview. I’ve long admired Cuneo’s work, especially his pieces for Esquire. Fantastic! I can’t wait to mine the archives.

    Best,
    Ant.

Thomas and John, thank you both for this interview. It’s nice to hear that such a successful and talented artist like John has the same insecurities and doubts that we all do (let’s admit it, we all do) at some point. It especially struck home with me when John talked about looking back on the past year of your work and not being excited about the work you’ve just done. I think that probably happens to a lot of us, and it’s comforting to hear it from John. Great questions, Thomas! These podcasts are getting more and more in depth and I would say they are helping a lot of people.

    Best, Brett

I love John and his work. He’s like the Woody Allen of Illustration! Great interview.
