Another fantastic episode!
Thanks Nate. I’m a big fan of this one as well. Great to speak with SooJin.
This was amazing Thomas! I’ve been familiar with SooJin Buzelli for quite some time now. It was incredible to hear about her working relationship with illustrators and to get a glimpse into the mind of an art director. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Weylon. It’s always nice to hear from Art Directors. Watch out for more of these in the near future!
Great interview! I took a look at her magazine work and absolutely LOVED it. The publications have a really strong look due to the use of such great (and abundant) illustration work throughout.
I think the publishing industry should take some cues from what Soojin is doing. A shining example of how strong illustration work kills stock art of “men in business suits” any day of the week.
We need more art direction that thinks along these lines.
I wonder how we break this type of thinking? (Must. Use. Business. Suits. And. Shaking. Hands.)
I’ve had my work killed recently due to this type of thought process.
This gave me some much needed end-of-the-day inspiration. Thanks!
Hi Terry. Thanks for your comment. SooJin’s approach is definitely refreshing. It’s too bad that her idea of thinking outside the box is such a rarity.
Wonderful. A chance to hear how an art director works in her own words. You enable your audience to gain insights that would be next to impossible to obtain any other way. Many thanks for this and all your efforts.
Another great one-thanks! Did anybody catch the name of the website she says is her homepage that she looks at every day? It sounded like ” illos dot com” but that site is about pianos…so I’m guessing that’s not it.
Really great interview, thanks for this.
Steve, I believe the site is http://www.illoz.com.
Thanks very much Donny!
