ICON6 Video: The Future of Publishing Part 1
It’s time to kick EFII’s coverage of the ICON6 Illustration Conference into high gear with the following video from the Opening Keynote Address.
This video features Part 1 of a presentation called The Future of Publishing, which brought together Wyatt Mitchell (Creative Director, WIRED), Kelly Doe (Art Director, The New York Times), Jim Heimann (Executive Editor, Taschen America), Jeremy Clark (Senior Experience Design Manager, Adobe), and Roger Black (Principal, Roger Black Studios).
As you’ll see in later videos, there were some controversial statements made about whether or not Illustrators should animate their work for online applications. The idea of putting images into motion caused quite a stir amongst the audience, and will be a point of discussion in the very near future here at Escape from Illustration Island.
Part 1 includes the introduction by Roger Black of Roger Black Studios. Stay tuned for more updates on the rest of the series in the coming days.
You can find more of EFII’s ICON6 coverage here.

Thank you so much for filming these lectures and posting them. I was at ICON 6, but couldn’t be everywhere at once and I missed a few speakers. This is also invaluable for those of us who teach illustration and also for those who weren’t able to make it to the conference at all. Thanks again!
My pleasure Liz. I’m glad to be able to share these.
Correction— Wyatt Mitchell, Design Director at Wired spoke in place of Scott Dadich.
Thanks for recording and posting this. This keynote made for a lot of discussion at the conference.
Thanks James, I noticed that and fixed it in the second video. I’ll make the change in the text.
Fantastic, thanks for posting.

Thomas, Thank you so very much for recording and making this available for those of us who couldn’t attend ICON this year. It’s an invaluable contribution to illustration, indeed, that you’re providing here at EFII.
Thanks again and keep up the great work!!
