Share Your Illustration 3

July 8, 2010

It’s time for another Share Your Illustration event, where you can show off your latest work and check out the Illustrations of your fellow artists.

Share Your Illustration 1 & 2 were both popular and inspiring thanks to all the artists involved, and I’m sure that number 3 will be no different.

You can now view over 75 pieces that were submitted in Share Your Illustration 1 here and over 160 that were submitted for Share Your Illustration 2 here.

Here’s how it works:

1. Copy the URL of the image you want to share from your website, blog, flickr page, etc. If you dont’t know how to do this, watch this quick video tutorial. Please try to use images with smaller file sizes (under 500 KB) so that it doesn’t slow the page-loading. If you’re using a serice like Blogger, be sure to click on the image within the blog post, rather than when it’s by itself on a page. This will ensure that your Illustration appears correctly.

2. Paste the image URL into the comments section below.

3. If you like, you can write a few lines telling us what you do and share the URLs to your websites, blogs, or social networking profiles.

4. Submit comment.

5. I’ll check in regularly to make the images show up.  (You won’t see it right away when you post your comment. I’ll need to add the necessary code on my end to make it work.) Every once in a while I won’t be able to get the link to work, and won’t be able to track down the image, so please try to follow these instructions carefully.

VOILA!

You image should soon appear in your post. I hope everyone enjoys sharing their Illustration with the community and  viewing the work of your fellow artists. Be sure to check back here in the future to see who else has submitted their work and share your thoughts with the artists involved.

One change that I’m making to this particular event is to cut off entries this Sunday, in order to keep things manageable.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS:  Sunday, July 11th, Midnight PST

You can also help to add more Illustrations to the community by spreading the word to your fellow artists!

I’ll get things started! Here’s a recent piece I did for EFII’s post called Art Directors – Are They Human?

    • July 10, 2010 6:31 AM

Nice work Thomas! I love that you still see your line work in your pieces. The colors are very evoking of what this piece is all about!

Great colrong! New style is really getting fun to look at!

I love seeing the line-work showing through in the digital piece. It keeps that notion of something done by hand in the forefront. Great style, Thomas.

How fun! First time sharing. This is just my latest doodle/fun piece. I have about three more complete illos in the works right now. Looking forward to seeing everyone’s work! :)

    • July 9, 2010 10:20 AM

I wish I could “doodle” like that! Really great work!

    • July 10, 2010 6:29 AM

I know you only tightened up the face, because of that, I don’t know if you planned this, it looks like she is floating in water. It’s hard not to get stopped by this piece and just look at the details. Nice painting, I love the rosey nose and of course the eyes.

One of my favorite recent pieces has been the one I did for Ripple -

    • July 9, 2010 10:20 AM

      Excellent!

    • July 10, 2010 6:26 AM

I remember when this came up on Ripple. I loved it then and I still love it. I love the details, the line work, the colors, how the krill has the brightest red, and the white orbs hover above. The whole piece has a great feel. I think you had the first piece on the little guys affected by the oil spill.

    “Hog Ross”

A tribute to Bob Ross and Bacon. :D

I have been rocking my sketchbook a lot lately. I am working on a series of self assignments to help me discover my style and develop a inking technique. This idea just kinda grew out of a bunch of bacon and piggies I have been doodling.

    ~ John

Thanks Leamonade! I was never really into his style of work… but Mr. Ross was very a nice does of human Thorazine that could mellow out any hectic day. :D

You spell “ollie” (which is right) in most locations, but you have it spelled as “olley” on the title. It is a sweet concept, but I think you should play with the typography more, specifically with the bonus facts. I love that they are there, but they are just kinda floating words in a big giant box.

      • July 8, 2010 1:59 PM

Thanks, The plan is to have a head being cut off in for the one fact, but I haven’t decided what to do for the other 2. Also no spell check yet. Most work was done making sure the Ollie looked right.

  19. July 8, 2010 1:19 PM

Illustration for a tee shirt design.
This is a neat trick, I used symmetry to cut down on time by only drawing/coloring the left side.
    But How you ask…

In Adobe Illustrator cs4 and 5 You will find Live Reflect X hiding in the graphics styles additive library. This will mirror your image as you are drawing it. (Also useful if you need to make repeating patterns for some reason.)

I started out by locking down the main features of the face. I’ll then subdivide the sections, and add detail as needed. Smooth out the corners to give a nice flow, thicken lines as needed, and fill in blacks.

To color, I (pathfinder merge) my lines with a solid rectangle placed behind my line work.
This chops up the shapes I need. I can then just shift select them and change the colors as I go, faster then the paint bucket or painting it in.

    • July 8, 2010 1:21 PM

Hey there. I need a link to the image to make it show up. Thanks!

I’m actually a graphic designer, but I do a bit of illustration work in various styles for my clients as well!

This piece was completed a few months back for a Danville, California, couple. It was used as a label design for their very first, private batches of merlot and cabernet wines. You can see it on the bottles here: http://tinyurl.com/leilasingleton-jadehill2. The illustration was done in watercolor, colored pencil and acrylic paint and measures 4.25″ x 5.5″.

I did this for the Gainesville Roller Rebels roller derby team from Gainesville Florida. Really fun to create a kind of punk wonder-woman. Their team was so happy with this poster and the others that I did (and am still working on) that they are going to do a live Calendar photo shoot with all of their girls, re-creating each poster in real life. Pretty darn cool if you ask me.

It’s friday and I’m in a sketchbook state of mind… and this morning I decided I’ll be redoing our fish aquarium this weekend, which made me think of this moleskin sketch I’ll share. It was a tragic 48 hour period in the living room community tank, when a bottled-up super soldier fish was released into a new, peaceful society.

A lot of good fish died that day:

About me… I’m a freelance and staff Illustrator specializing in informational graphics. I like long walks on the beach, and believe if I was in a war film, I’d be one of the last of the group to survive.

These guys come from a potential webcomic I’m gonna start working on soon. E-mote (red) hates his new next door neighbour, I-con (white). Fastest way to describe I-con is that he’s a 1st generation iPod going though a midlife crisis. He’s kitted himself out with some 90′s shades, a screen which displays various t-shirt slogans and has a tendency to say “Whassup!” and “….NOT!” in a poorly misjudged attempt to stay “Down with da kids, YO!”

This is an illustration part of a series dedicated to the current World Cup in South Africa, it has been an occasion for me to develop my portraying and caricaturing skills.
The illustrations are not supposed to be final artworks, but the result of a growing process and learning experience, in fact I decided to work with a nibs, since I wanted to get confident with that particular tool, and those drawings where a platform open to errors and mistakes.

Wow, there’s an amazing amount of talent on this post. I love all the work.

My name is Melissa Kojima and I’m also known as Artist in LA LA Land, because I live and work in Los Angeles and because I’ve got my head in the clouds. I specialize in portrait, fashion, decorative and editorial illustration. This painting is of the comedic actor Steve Carrell, called, “Serious Monkey Business”. I try to create illustrations that are funny yet beautiful. I love mixing two antithetical ideas in an illustration.
