Each one offers its own unique features and benefits, and some cater specifically to certain Illustration markets, such as Medical or Children’s Book Illustration. An organization that has helped me find every job I’ve ever had is missing!
The Society for News Design is an international organization based in the U.S. that is dedicated to visual journalism. Our members art direct, design, edit, report, illustrate, shoot photos and video, visualize data – and even write code.
We host meetups, training courses and conferences all over the world. SND holds an international best-of news design competition (with several categories aimed specifically at illustration) each February in Syracuse and the Malofiej Awards (the Pulitzers of infographics) each year in Spain. The membership is relatively cheap and the discounts and opportunities stack up fast. Check us out at http://www.snd.org.
