Share Your Illustration 2

March 15, 2010

Last year, I invited all Illustrators to share one piece of their artwork with the EFII community, view the work of their fellow artists, interact, and possibly make some new connections.

You can now view over 75 pieces that were submitted here.

Because of all the great participation and feedback I received about that experiment, I’ve decided to once again invite you to post an Illustration in the comments section of this post.

Here’s how it works:

1. Copy the URL of the image you want to share from your website, blog, flickr page, etc.  If you dont’t know how to do this, watch this quick video tutorial.  Please try to use images with smaller file sizes (under 500 KB) so that it doesn’t slow the page-loading.  If you’re using a serice like Blogger, be sure to click on the image within the blog post, rather than when it’s by itself on a page.  This will ensure that your Illustration appears correctly.

2. Paste the image URL into the comments section below.

3. If you like, you can write a few lines telling us what you do and share the URLs to your websites, blogs, or social networking profiles.

4. Submit comment.

5. I’ll check in regularly to make the images show up.  (You won’t see it right away when you post your comment. I’ll need to add the necessary code on my end to make it work.)

VOILA!

You image should soon appear in your post.  I hope everyone enjoys sharing their Illustration with the community and  viewing the work of your fellow artists.  Be sure to check back here in the future to see who else has submitted their work.

You can also help to add more Illustrations to the community by spreading the word to your fellow artists!

Hello EFII people. I’m currently starting out in the fantasy/sci-fi genre market. It’s a blast so far.

    • March 15, 2010 8:04 AM

Aaron, good luck on your journey! I work in light children’s fantasy and truly adore it :)
      Nancy- so lovely!!

    • March 15, 2010 8:17 AM

Very well done. You seem to be quite an accomplished artist. If I had any complaint, it’s that the art is similar to a lot of other fantasy art out there. It might be wise to stylize your art a bit more to stand out, but if this is the style you’re comfortable with don’t let me stop you from continuing to prefect it.

    • March 15, 2010 6:08 PM

My goodness Aaron you do have the chops! Wonderful work on your site and blog. If your just starting out, you are well on your way in a field your skills are perfect for. I value solid technique & draftsmanship over “style” anyday. Great work my friend.

    • March 16, 2010 6:43 PM

Wow… very nice work. You’re perfectly suited for the genre you’re working in. Just curious, how long does it take you to do a piece like this ? And how big size wise is the original ?

    • March 17, 2010 9:36 AM

      Hi Aaron,

Beautiful work and should fit very successfully in the fantasy/sci-fi realm. I really appreciate your knowledge of anatomy, color, composition and light. Your characters also show great emotion and expression. Best of luck in your endeavors with this genre!!

Character design of a goldfinch, made for selfpromotion.

    • March 15, 2010 8:11 AM

I like the design of the birds. They really stand out from the lighter background. The patterning on the wings is interesting. Nicely done.

If I might make a suggestion, You might want to lower the feet a bit so that they look like they wrap around the branch. Most birds have talons that they can wrap around things to grab on. I realize you’re going for a more stylized look for the feet but it would help if they look they wrap around the branch. That’s my opinion anyway.

Overall I like the look of the piece. Keep up the great work.

Great use of perspective with that wall in combination with the character. The angle and colors make it a really strong piece. Makes the viewer really want to know what the heck happened to this guy!

This is a pencil drawing I did as a final piece during my A-levels. Since then I’ve done a foundation in art and design, and now I’m studying Illustration at UWE in first year. Done a lot of work since but this is still my favourite. It measures around 1.5m in size!

    • March 15, 2010 8:14 PM

I’m a big believer in using personal work to showcase your talent. This is from my upcoming comic called “Kool-Aid Gets Fired”. When I went from printing it out myself to paying a professional printer, I decided to add an additional story, one about Kool-Aid’s bastard child.

I decided also to do it as a children book, with that style of illustrations. I can now use the images to promote myself.

    Hello, thanks for sharing :)

    Good vs. Evil:
My country, Colombia, suffers every day because of the problems caused by violence, kidnapping, social injustice, murder. This side is fighting tirelessly against the peacefully other side of my country, which is trying to solve the problems through dialogue and justice. This is my vision of what I see around me as “Good and Evil”.

Each person may choose “to do good” or “to do evil”. What kind of mask we want to wear… but always will be our body of flesh and blood behind it.

  36. March 15, 2010 9:30 AM

The above is a commission I did in color pencil for a client who wanted a drawing for her child’s cottage garden bedroom theme. The girl in the drawing resembles her daughter. The girl’s room walls are lavendar, so I wanted to bring out the color in the drawing through her dress and flowers.

I am a freelance children’s book illustrator, but also make myself available to do pencil portraits, custom art and I also sell prints of existing, non-commissioned work.

My name is Enid Soto, and though I’m a graphic designer (from Venezuela), I love illustration more than anything. I try to incorporate it to my work as much as I can. I make an effort to diversify my style but I always end up creating something with lots of colors, textures (oh how I love lines) and a naïve feel, I can’t help it. I hope you like it!

They were all different versions of Santa. I do a wide variety of illustration, editorial, corporate, storyboard, presentation and comic book and cartooning. I also teach illustration and have been an illustration consultant.

First… Thanks Thomas for the opportunity to show my work and to interact with fellow creatives.
Second… I’m a freelance cartoonist, focusing mainly on character design. My influences include Hanna Barbera, Berke Brethed, Gary Trudeu, Flesicher Studios and alot more.

This is a personal piece from my website and one I used as a promotional piece a few years ago. I draw everything by hand and then scan it into my Mac and colorize it, either in Photoshop or Illustrator, depending on what I want to do it with it. I usually use Illustrator, especially if I want to be able to scale it or edit it easily.

I’ve recently starting toying with using the brush tool more instead of the pen tool for my line work. There is some fantastic work being shown here.

    Looking forward to the comments.

Wow, there is really some fantastic work posted in here. My props go out to all of you! I love the variation in styles and approaches, very inspiring.

I am an illustrator and cartoonist who works the majority of the time in digital media, both Photoshop and Painter. However, I am MOSTLY know for the giant chalk murals that I create at conventions as performance art/marketing pieces. I hit up mostly comic book and video game conventions, but I am also looking in to horror conventions and whatever else comes my way.

Above is a piece I made at the New York City Comic Con in 2008. A recreation of an Alex Ross painting for the Captain America costume redesign at the time.

You can see a bunch more on my blog http://www.pepperink.com . Galleries are listed to the left.

Resubmitting as my drawing did not appear (you may delete the original post)

The above is a commission I did in color pencil for a client who wanted a drawing for her child’s cottage garden bedroom theme. The girl in the drawing resembles her daughter. The girl’s room walls are lavendar, so I wanted to bring out the color in the drawing through her dress and flowers.

I am a freelance children’s book illustrator, but also make myself available to do pencil portraits, custom art and I also sell prints of existing, non-commissioned work.

I’m an illustrator that works in a various different styles. And I suppose this one is in the outskirts of illustration and tends to be more photography. It’s an illustration done for a poster for a festival this summer in Sweden.

This is just wonderful! I was lucky enough to visit the Netherlands for a short time and this is just exactly how I would imagine a kitchen should look like there! The characters are so cute and all the details you’ve included are a lovely touch. Your animated website is so fun as well. I can’t wait to see your book published! Best of luck.

Hi al!. I am very impressed with the level of talent that is being shown here. I am an American illustrator/designer who is mostly known for my footwear designs, but also illustrate MMA fighters. I have been fighting Jiu-Jitsu since 1997 and found that my two greatest passions are MMA and illustration. So I created Opticfeed and began showcasing my caricatures and drawings of the fight scene. You can visit my site at http://www.opticfeed.com to see more of my illustrations. This piece I am showing below was a sketch for Wanderlei Silva when I trained with him in Curitiba, Brazil a few years back. Enjoy!

    Hello fellow escapee’s!

My jaw is on the floor from all the talent I see here! I’m rather shy to post… but what can I loose? I am a long time graphic designer working in the higher education field. Lately I have been trying to brush up on my illustration chops. I decided that a T-shirt design “self assignment” was the ticket to get my pens moving again. So… now we have a robot meditating. Thanks for taking a look! And thanks to Mr. James for creating EFII and sharing his knowledge. :D

Hello, here’s the front cover of Trap Them “Filth Rations” EP I finished recently. Yes.. they do still make records! The original is about 14×14″ and in pen and ink, actually all of my work is in pen and ink (with some collage here and there). I also did the inserts and packaging, but I’ll just link the cover for now. The band is hybrid of punk/hardcore/and metal, and hopefully the idea of ‘Trap Them” and “Filth Rations” is communicated… I think it is.

      Hey,

Really love this illustration. You have really a style for fashion magazines and stuff. Nice style.
I also checked your myrecurringdream site and i saved it because i can use a lot of the images as reference for anatomy. Too bad i cannot click on them to enlarge them!

      Keep up the good work,

      Marjolein.

Most of my doodles are a “single moment in time” stories that come from somewhere deep in my psyche, and almost always have to do with communication that occurs between ourselves and….ourselves, others, our higher powers, nature, inner critic, et al.

This particular image is entitled “I Close My Eyes” and has something to do with things that are unspoken, and will remain so – in this case because of death.

You can find my Doodles on Facebook: http://facebook.com/DoodlesByA
And my other art, Extreme Collages on Facebook: http://facebook.com/ExtremeCollage

About me: I have been an working illustrator since 1994. I attended Art Center College of Design. I love to design vehicles and organic forms. I finally made the transitions to digital
about 5 yrs ago. I still love traditional art and do that on my spare time. In the world of commercial deadlines, digital is way faster, flexible and convenient in cost for photos or transparencies.
