Resource Review – Artsy Shark
For this week’s segment of the Resource Review series, I’d like to draw your attention to a new blog called Artsy Shark, which aims to educate those who are interested in making a business out of their art. That topic fits right in with the content here at Escape From Illustration Island, so I definitely recommend checking out the articles and interviews that are available there.
Here’s a little more about Artsy Shark from the woman behind it all, Carolyn Edlund:
Artsy Shark was created to inform, encourage and advocate for emerging artists.
Articles on the business of art are posted on the blog, as well as interviews with experts in different fields of art. I try to focus on education, launching a business and giving new artists as much practical information as possible so that they can avoid mistakes and present themselves professionally. Sometimes an artist is interviewed to explain their approach to their work and how they became successful. Especially popular is the Featured Artist Gallery. Each week, one emerging artist is featured. A short interview and a sample of their portfolio is presented on the site. Every effort is made to publicize their work, and after another artist has taken their place, their portfolio remains in the archives. Professional artists may request a link to their website on the Links to Art We Love page.
Thanks to Carolyn for helping to provide resources and information to new and emerging artists.
