Super, thank you for sharing. There are some I haven’t heard of and will be sure to pass this along!
I have a question for the general population:
Self-Publishers doing comics have Ka-Blam and Indyplanet.
Is there something out there just like that for children’s books. I wish self-publishing children’s books was a lot easier!
Hey Mark, You may or may not have seen this already, but here is a place you might get information on self-publishing children’s books.
Best of luck!
Mark, there are a few self publishers who specialize in children’s books. The one that comes immediatly to mind is DragonPencil. But in all many if not all instances really check to see the quality level of the product they produce. And how well they actually follow through with promotion and distribution.
So many things to learn… especially when one has so many interests at the start!
Children’s illustration is one of my sirens, calling me as well.
This is a great way to find out what it is like for children’s illustrators.
Thanks!
I have gradually been moving in the direction of a freelance artist and have been very interested in looking into illustrating for children books. Thank you very much for these resources!
You got it Star (Sarah). Have fun exploring these sites. There’s a lot of content here.
My sister has been looking for sites like that. I’m not sure if sees seen them, though I have told about this great site. I’ll send the links anyway.
Thanks again Thomas.

Hi Thomas,
Via LinkedIn I was pointed to your list of online children’s book illustration resources.
Very useful information is to be found here. Thank you.
I shall pass this information on to Veronica Nahmias, who is a fine children’s book illustator – lives and works in Amsterdam -she has a number of books published – you may enjoy her work, so go to http://www.veronicanahmias.nl
All the best, Frans
Thanks Thomas, I’m glad I came across your information.

Is just what i need.
Thanks for an interesting post, full of good info and many fun rabbit trails! :)
I’m a MG author searching for an agent or editor.
Also toying with the idea of self-publishing (daunting though both avenues may be)…
IF I decide to go the self-publishing route, what is a good way to begin the search for illustrator. I will only need cover art and probably a few things sprinkled among the chapters… but not sure yet.
So – thought I’d ask and see what you might recommend.
(I’m in SCBWI and have attended just one conference, and that for only 1/2 day as it was almost sold out.)
Great list. I passed you along-
