Tutorial of the Week – Wookie Rage Part 1 by Chris Oatley

October 6, 2009

Wookie Rage by Chris Oatley

Apparently it’s Chris Oatley week at Escape From Illustration Island, due to the fact that he’s the featured artist in Episode 7 of the EFII Podcast, as well as my pick for this week’s Tutorial of the Week.  It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of his work, and his Wookie Rage Tutorial (Part 1) is a perfect example of the high level of quality and inspiration to be found amongst the many great resources at ChrisOatley.com.  In this video tutorial, he shares a great approach to starting a digital painting off on the right foot, using texture and value, while sharing some of that signature Oatley wisdom.

As a side note, my secondary motive for choosing to highlight this tutorial is to apply a friendly amount of pressure to Chris to release the 2nd part in the series, because watching Part 1 leaves you growling for more.

I hereby put you on notice, Chris Oatley: Release Part 2 or feel the wrath of my wookie rage!

You can view the Wookie Rage video tutorial here.
